They’ll face off in the single of the year category and their albums, Viva La Vida and Rockferry, respectively, will also go head to head for bragging rights in the big category of the year – British album – at the Feb. 18 ceremony at London’s Earls Court.
Other Coldplay nods include British group and live act.
Duffy, whose debut release became Britain’s top-selling album in 2008, will also compete in the British female solo artist and breakthrough act categories.
Other artists appearing in multiple categories include Adele, Scouting For Girls and Elbow with three nods each; and The Ting Tings, Radiohead, Girls Aloud and Estelle with two nominations.
In a strange turn, this year’s international album and international group categories feature the same artists – AC/DC, Fleet Foxes, The Killers, Kings of Leon and MGMT.
Performances during the ceremony will include U2, Kings of Leon, Duffy, Pet Shop Boys and Girls Aloud.
Kylie Minogue, James Corden and Mathew Horne have signed on for hosting duties.
