Victoria Gutierrez works with a diverse roster of established, as well as up and coming, talent that includes EARTHGANG, Kash Doll, Rexx Life Raj, ODIE, Jehlani Aryeh, and more. The UC Santa Barbara graduate joined ICM Partners as an assistant to Partner Dennis Ashley in 2014, who, alongside Head of Music Robert Gibbs, “taught me everything I know when it comes to the business side of music.”
But it’s a business that got plunged into its hardest endurance test yet, shortly after Gutierrez was promoted to Agent in 2019. She made a smart choice, when she was forced to shift her clients’ tours for the second or third time in the fall 2020: “I went deep. I was like, I’m skipping ‘21, and I’m going all the way to the beginning of 2022. And I’m thankful that I did, because I only had to shift two or three times versus some people, who moved five or six times.” One thing the pandemic taught her is that “we can all successfully work from home without sacrificing productivity.”
At first, Gutierrez missed her office, being particularly worried about her office plants, but she adapted. “I miss getting up, getting dressed, and having a place to go versus getting up, being in my sweats, and doing the same thing every single day. That was one of the hardest parts, it was like ‘Groundhog Day.’ But now that we’re through the worst of it, I’m out again living my life. I finally went to my first show three days ago, which was great.” Recent highlights include a U.S. Festival run for EARTHGANG and a role on the upcoming STARZ show “Black Mafia Family” for Kash Doll, signing Canadian singer and songwriter ODIE, and helping Rexx Life Raj secure a spot on YouTube’s annual brandcast event.
As a Colombian/Italian female concert agent, Gutierrez is aware that while “the industry is still lacking significantly, there weren’t many female agents 20-30 years ago, let alone female agents of color,” adding that she’s “eternally grateful to all the trailblazing women that came before me. They made it possible for me to have a seat at the table.”
Props From Above:
“Victoria is a thoughtful, intelligent and highly motivated person. Her abilities and musical taste will serve her well in the near future. I look forward to watching her mature in the agency business.”
