Getting To Know Mark Yovich

Mark Yovich
President, Ticketmaster

After news broke in October that Mark Yovich would succeed Jared Smith as president of Ticketmaster, the natural next question many had was: “Wait, who is Mark Yovich?”

Originally from Perth, Australia, Yovich has been with Live Nation since 2000, when it was SFX entertainment. Starting with a temporary gig while backpacking through Europe, he later joined full time as Vice President, New Media – International Music in the company’s London office. When Clear Channel Entertainment was acquired in 2002, Yovich was named Director of New Media, Europe. Once Live Nation and Ticketmaster merged in 2010, Yovich was named Ticketmaster’s EVP & General Manager of Ecommerce International, overseeing all of the ticketing giant’s digital business. The following year he was named President of Ticketmaster International, a position he held until Smith’s departure in 2020.

Under Yovich’s leadership, Ticketmaster has expanded its operations to 32 countries and is now the world’s largest ticketing company. During the past year they have been focused on digital ticketing, as numerous events have now run with 100% or nearly 100% digital tickets. The company is also exploring opportunities associated with NFTs.

With less than a year at the helm, Yovich said Ticketmaster has already added 5 million fee- bearing tickets from new clients and the company is seeing strong sales from the new festivals and tours going on sale every week.

“Fan demand is stronger than it’s ever been, the current desire to attend shows is massively outweighing anything we’ve ever seen in the past,” Yovich said. “We’re all missing those special moments live gives us, a lot of people are noticing the parallels to the Roaring Twenties and it’s easy to see that live events will play a huge role. As the world starts to open up more, we will make sure Ticketmaster is delivering tools to help everyone enjoy even more of the game or concert in the moment.” Yovich also said diversity is going to be one of Ticketmaster’s top priorities moving forward and the company is starting by reflecting on its own house, supporting social justice causes and increasing spending with minority-owned vendors. He considers his biggest accomplishment thus far to be “fostering a great culture, encouraging innovation, and pushing for progression in the ticketing space,” and that he is excited for Ticketmaster to take its place as a “truly global business – a single team with a single mission for bringing the best ticket experience to events around the world.”

He also credits the previous management team for laying a strong foundation.

“Reorganizing Ticketmaster into a Global team, with a single mission would not have been possible without the incredible people that I work with every day, they really are the best in the business and seeing them excel in a global environment has to be one of the best parts of the job.”

Hot Takes

Which music artist or band has most helped you get through this year?

There are so many, and during this crazy time, it has been the power of music that has got me through more than ever. Dreaming of dancing in a field or a sweaty club to amazing artists and bands has kept me going through this time and I can’t wait to get back to doing that again in real life. The War on Drugs, The National, Lana Del Ray, The Jungle Giants and a band from my home town Spacey Jane, and fellow Aussies The DMAs and The Smith Street Band.

When it’s safe to do so, will you go back to the office, work remotely or a combination of both? Why?

I’m looking forward to connecting with clients and leaders around the world in person again. Getting back on planes and visiting our offices, teams and clients in cities around the world.
