The Experience Hendrix Tour returns in 2019 to celebrate the short yet impactful life of legendary guitarist and performer Jimi Hendrix.
Originally as a single show tribute at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, it has now evolved into 30-date tour through the East Coast, South, and Midwest. The tour includes performances by an eclectic group of artists such as Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys and original Jimi Hendrix Experience bassist Billy Cox, respected instrumental rock guitarist and 15-time Grammy Award nominee Joe Satriani, Megadeth founder Dave Mustaine, special guests Taj Mahal, David Hidalgo, Cesar Rosas, and more.
The three-hour concert event will showcase collaborations and personalized interpretations of Hendrix’s classics. The tour will launch March 3 in Pompano Beach, Fla., and conclude on Apr. 6 in Wallingford, Conn. Tickets will be on sale starting Oct. 16.
“The tour is more than a series of concerts,” said Janie Hendrix, CEO of Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. in a statement. “It’s a celebration of a man whose amazing gift changed the face of music and informed an entire culture. His influences were varied and diverse. And this year we’re shining a light on that diversity with artists who represent it across cultures and who also share a love for Jimi and his music. It’s exciting to be able to honor Jimi’s enduring legacy in this way.”
Notably in light of the tour, Joe Satriani returns with bassist and vocalist dUg Pinnick from King’s X and sideman Kenny Aronoff on drums to make up his rhythm section. “The Experience Hendrix Tours are always so much fun,” Satriani said in a statement. “The camaraderie between all the musicians on the show is magical. I’m so excited to play some deep Hendrix tracks in a power trio setting with dUg Pinnick and Kenny Aronoff!”
Select Experience Tour date tickets purchased online will come with a physical copy of Both Sides of the Sky, the third volume in a trilogy of albums presenting unissued Jimi Hendrix studio recordings.
