Mexico, Canada and the U.S. are all on the menu for Twenty One Pilots’ second helping of North American “Bandito” tour dates.
The new dates open with three shows in Mexico: Monterrey on May 1; Mexico City on May 3; and Guadalajara on May 6. After that it’s Canada, from Vancouver to Toronto and many stops in between throughout May.
The fresh U.S. dates start May 31 at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich., and continue throughout June, wrapping June 29 in Columbus, Ohio’s Nationwide Arena.
Fans can register for first access to tickets now, and the presales begin Oct. 9. The U.S. and Canada general onsales begin Oct. 12. The general onsale for Mexico opens Oct. 17.
The band is pushing tunes off its latest album, Trench, which is available for pre-order now and released worldwide Oct. 5.
The Bandito tour opens in Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena Oct. 16 and representatives are saying the first month is solidly sold out. The Pilots are also scheduled to take flight in Australia and New Zealand in December and Europe in late January through March.
The band’s manager, Chris Woltman of Element 1 Management, told Pollstar the first leg sold amazingly well.
“We crushed it on the onsale,” Woltman told Pollstar the week after the first leg’s onsale. “U.S. dates all sold out yesterday except Lincoln and ex-U.S. dates look amazing – two sold-out Wembley Arenas in London within three hours.”
Indeed, Twenty One Pilots has established itself as a premier arena act. The band came in at No. 66 on the 2016 Top 100 Worldwide tours act with $26.8 million grossed and 752,384 tickets moved in 98 markets. The acts before and after them on the chart were Kevin Hart and Paul Simon, respectively.
The band did substantially less touring in 2017 than the previous year, with only 37 markets played, but they still grossed $19.1 million and reported 400,384 tickets. One interesting note is the band’s average ticket price jumped from around $36 in 2016 to almost $48 in 2017.
Twenty One Pilots’ largest reported gross last year was at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., Feb. 15-17., the only two-night stand the duo took on last year. It was also the only million, dollar gross, raking in $1.18 million on 22,558 tickets.
The success of Twenty One Pilots is giving rock fans solid evidence that their genre is in no way dead and also showing how religious and spiritual themes can influence bands’ music in more subtle ways than in previous generations.
