Spotify and Live Nation Urban are continuing the RapCaviar Live series that started in 2017, with artists including Migos, 2 Chainz, Tory Lanez, and Lil Pump being named for “Season 2,” with 13 U.S. dates to be announced in total and plans to take it “across the globe” according to a statement.
The RapCaviar concert series was launched in partnership with Spotify, known for its hugely popular hip-hop playlist of the same name, and played other venues including Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom with Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti, and DJ Drama Oct. 20 and was sold out clean for weeks, according to Gee, “and probably could have sold another 4,000 tickets.”
“It’s been really refreshing and very successful,” Gee told Pollstar as the first season of RapCaviar was wrapping up. “It’s showing how two companies that operate in different areas can really come together and build culture.”
Gee said Live Nation Urban is looking to develop more urban-leaning events and now handles the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia and Broccoli City event in Washington, D.C.
“The plan is sort of just building out and focusing solely on the hip-hop, R&B and gospel world, and figuring out how we can take a deep dive and build unique ideas, unique platforms and business models in the space,” Gee said. It was just announced that Tuma Basa, curator of the RapCaviar playlist, is leaving Spotify to join YouTube as confirmed by Variety. He had been working with Spotify for about three years and was instrumental in turning RapCaviar into the tastemaking platform it is known as today, and Gee had mentioned Basa as an important part of RapCaviar Live’s organization.
