Rock Hall Announces Inductees

Bon Jovi, The Cars, Dire Straits, The Moody Blues and the late Nina Simone will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Cleveland April 14.

The late Sister Rosetta Tharp will receive the Award for Early Influence.

Artists are eligible for nomination 25 years after the release of the artist’s or band’s first commercial recording. Each year’s inductees are chosen from votes by more than 900 industry-related people as well as online fan votes.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be televised on HBO, with details announced next year, and broadcast on Sirius XM.

The touring powerhouse known as Bon Jovi has frequently topped Pollstar charts, and in 2013 had the top tour of the year based on ticket sales with more than 2.6 million sold worldwide. That year, Bon Jovi averaged 27,397 tickets per event, with an average gross of $2.6 million.

The ’80s rockers played North American arenas this spring, including two dates at Madison Square Garden Arena April 13, which moved 33,773 tickets and grossed $.207 million.  Other reports include two nights at Air Canada Centre April 10-11, which moved 33,359 tickets and grossed $2.57 million, PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh April 5 (14,619, $1.08 million) and Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia March 31, which sold 18,673 tickets and grossed $1.7 million).

The band also played Rock In Rio Sept 22 in Brazil, and Sao Paulo Trip Sept 21, which included The Who, Guns N’ Roses and Def Leppard.

For Q3 this year, Bon Jovi was No. 37 with 446,452 tickets sold.

The Moody Blues has been on tour this year, with dates reported to Pollstar including July 20 at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap, which sold out 6,959 tickets and grossed $419,718 according to Pollstar data.  Others include July 1 at the Fraze Pavilion For the Perf. Arts in Kettering, Ohio, which sold 4,090 tickets and grossed $231,021.

The band has dates on the books including The Moody Blues Cruise in January that departs from Miami and also includes Young Dubliners, Jefferson Starship, and The Orchestra Starring ELO Former Members.

Other dates taking them through January include Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Fla., the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans, and four nights at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas.
