Another year, another edition of “The Greatest Vacation On Earth.” The ShipRocked 2017 cruise hit the high seas in January and Pollstar has the photos to give a glimpse of what the voyage offered this year.
The event is billed as a place for musicians and fans to relax and relish in a community of love and support. “The whole ShipRocked experience is usually a familial one, a full on meet and greet experience between fans and bands,” Liz Ramanand of Loudwire wrote, and the evidence shows this year definitely delivered.
The cruise took place on Carnival Victory, setting sail on Jan. 16 and docking on Jan. 20 in Miami. Along on the way the ship took partiers to Grand Turk in Turks & Caicos and showed them the wonders of the Caribbean. Performers on the 2017 edition included Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach, Alter Bridge, Sevendust, Pop Evil and The Stowaways, an all-star group assembled for the cruise.
There were more than 20 bands on the bill, taking on more than 40 performances. The word has gotten around, as this year tickets sold out in record time.
An annual highlight of ShipRocked is the unique collaborations between different artists and band members. The all-star band this year included John Tempesta from The Cult, Bumblefoot, Oli Herbert of All That Remains, Stevie Dacanay of Buckcherry, Sonny Sandoval of P.O.D. and CJ Pierce of Drowning Pool. There were also guest performances from Jacoby Shaddix and Tony Palermo of Papa Roach and Jasen Racuh from Breaking Benjamin. The Stowaways’ performance paid tribute to fallen rock heroes like David Bowie.
Of course, the event had the meet & greets it is known for, as well as Q&A’s with Benjamin Burnley (Breaking Benjamin), Myles Kennedy (Alter Bridge), John Connolly (Sevendust) and many others.
Festivities also included a beer pong competition, a ShipRocker Feud game show with Papa Roach and Sevendust, themed parties and an onboard tattoo parlor.

Before the shift left port there was also a pre-cruise party at Miami’s Wynwood Yard Jan. 15, which had Miami foodtrucks and ShipRocked music.
