RockNess Misses Second Year

It wasn’t possible to get comment from AEG at press time, but The Record is quoting an insider as saying that “it’s hoped this isn’t the end of the festival.”

“A lot of people will be very disappointed but the rumours had been flying around for years that the festival wasn’t getting the numbers it needed to thrive,” the unnamed source said.

Last September Aberdeen paper The Press And Journal said a local RockNess spokesman refused to confirm whether the northern fest would be back in 2015.

The decision not to go ahead in 2014 was said to be due to the addition of “a number of events alongside the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games.”

The last RockNess, which takes place near Dores, on the banks of Loch Ness, was in 2013 when nearly 30,000 turned up for a bill that included Basement Jaxx, Example, Plan B, The Vaccines, and Ellie Goulding.

There’s since been growing competition from Belladrum Tartan Heart weekender, another Highland festival that’s a 17,000-capacity sellout and reportedly benefits the nearby region to the tune of £6.6 million.
