Over the last five years, the Australian Government’s music export body Sounds Australia has targeted CMW as an important place to showcase.
This year marked the highest number of Aussie acts to perform, including The Jezabels, The Falls, The Beards, Kate Miller-Heidke, Busby Marou, Emma Louise and You Am I.
Sounds Australia itself produced three showcase events: Sound Gallery, Beat Pie and The Aussie BBQ.
“Australia has a unique musical ecosystem which does not have to rely upon global sales, global distribution or artist success abroad in order to be successful,” CMW President Neill Dixon said. “The continent is an excellent outlet for Canadian bands to remain active in otherwise down seasons. The economy is motivated, the Australian dollar is climbing and somewhat stable, so people can part with discretionary spending.”
