Glastonbury Lineup Includes Rolling Stones

It’s official!  After months of rumors and speculation, The Rolling Stones will headline England’s Glastonbury Festival June 29.  The festival’s Pyramid Stage will also host Arctic Monkeys, Mumford & Sons, Dizzee Rascal, Elvis Costello and more.

By saying the gig “will continue their ‘50 & Counting’ celebrations,’ the announcement on the Stones’ website alludes to the tour everybody knows will happen although dates haven’t yet been revealed.

In October, U.K.’s Sun reported that Glastonbury Festival organizer Michael Eavis was “desperate to get the band confirmed.”

Ronnie Wood told London’s Independent in February that he would meet with his bandmates in March and that Glastonbury would be his first question.  Evidently, that question is now answered.

Set for June 28-30 at Worthy Farm in Pilton, England, Glastonbury will also welcome Portishead, Chase & Status, The xx, Foals,Example, The Smashing Pumpkins and Alt-J on the Other Stage; Chic feat. Nile Rogers, Public Enemy, The Weekend, Seasick Steve, Major Lazer and Tom Tom Club on the West Holts Stage and Cat Power, The Horrors, Fuck Buttons, Django Django, Rodriguez and Dinosaur Jr. on the Park Stage.

But it doesn’t stop there.  Glastonbury has several more stages to fill as well as its Acoustic Tent and venues Silver Waves, Theater & Circus and Block9.  Artists listed include Steve Winwood, Sinead O’Connor, Nas, and Martha Wainwright.

It should also be noted that former Rolling Stones member Bill Wyman will bring his Rhythm Kings to the Acoustic Tent, but no word on whether that will intersect with Jagger & Co.
