Although Hurricane Earl has been downgraded to a category one tempest, some concert organizers aren’t taking any chances the storm might blow into their markets and have either canceled or postponed gigs scheduled for this weekend.
Canceled is the Upper East Side Music Festival in St. John’s Newfoundland. Scheduled for Sept. 5 and featuring Goo Goo Dolls, Ke$ha and Lifehouse, the festival is kaput for this year.

Postponed is Kenny Loggins’ appearance with the Boston Pops Orchestra in McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, R.I. Originally scheduled for Sept. 4, Loggins and The Pops will play the stadium Sept. 10. For more information, click here for KennyLoggins.com.
Earl has forced the cancellation of tonight’s Rhonda Vincent & The Rage gig in Rockland, Maine.
The Sweet Soul and Rock & Roll concert, scheduled for Sept. 4 at the Convention Center in Wildwood, N.J. and featuring The Spinners, The Temptations Review Feat. Dennis Edwards and Little Anthony and the Imperials, has been canceled, according to Wall Street Journal blog Speakeasy.
