Campers will spend their days hanging out with rock legends as they audition, form a band, write and record original music at a historic studio and then wrap up their camp experience by performing in a “battle of the bands” closing night concert at a legendary Los Angeles venue.
Rock star mentors and counselors will be on hand to work through intensive rehearsals and jam with campers as well as help with master classes and offer Q&A’s.
The Feb. 23-28 camp features the following counselors: Bret Michaels, Dave Mason, former Van Halen member and Chickenfoot bassist Michael Anthony, former KISS members Ace Frehley and Bruce Kulick, as well as former Grand Funk Railroad member Mark Farner.
Rami Jaffe – former The Wallflowers member who has also worked with Foo Fighters– will also be there, in addition to Kip Winger, former Guns N’ Roses member Steven Adler, and Rudy Sarzo, who has played with acts including Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne and Whitesnake.
The camp also includes Queen associate Spike Edney, Aerosmith producer Mark Hudson, Lita Ford, Gary Hoey, Fomer Pat Travers band member Sandy Gennaro, Jeff Foskett, Slim Jim Phantom, Richie Kotzen and Teddy Andreadis, who has worked with acts including Guns N’ Roses, Carole King and Chuck Berry.
“Rock ’N’ Roll Fantasy Camp has been changing the lives of non-professsional music lovers for years,” says camp founder David Fishof, “and the rock & roll legends who mentor them also wind up inspired by their interactions.”
Campers can choose between The Headliner Package and The Rockstar Package. The Headliner Package takes place over 5 1/2 days Feb. 23-28 and will set you back $6,999. The Rockstar Package takes place over 3 1/2 days Feb. 25-28 and costs $4,999.
According to the camp’s Web site, “The camp fee includes all meals throughout the camp, studio time, equipment, evening activities, a DVD of the final night’s “Campalooza” performance, transportation to and from all camp events, camp credentials, and a gift bag. Hotel and airfare is not included.”
Group rates at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City are available for $199 night, including breakfast and free Internet. Although campers can stay at another hotel, the rocks stars are bunking at the Hilton, which means you might run into your idols at the bar or in the lobby.
Rockers can also bring along their tiny dancers – aka significant others – by signing up for the Groupie Package. This package is available for the 3 1/2 days for $499 or 5 1/2 days for $699.
This year’s Hollywood camp includes an extra twist – in addition to living the rock star life, campers may also get to add reality star to their resume. Mark Burnett Productions is filming an hour-long, weekly doc-series that will features 15 musicians from a variety of different backgrounds and cities as they go through the process of becoming “rock stars.” The four-episode, on-hour series will air this July on VH1 Classic.
