Brit band The Music – yes, that’s their name – are set to open for The Vines, just like they did at the end of last year. Up until then, they’ll be playing alongside Coldplay. AM Radio will provide support for the first date in Canada.
The new tour comes just as The Vines wrapped their stint on Australia’s Big Day Out festival.
They may tout themselves as being “highly evolved,” but the group can be downright childish at times. Lead singer Craig Nicholls tends to ‘lose himself in the moment’ when performing and has more than once launched himself at the drum kit, been completely been out of sync with the rest of the band, and thrown a temper tantrum.
All the same, those sort of antics make for a great show and fans have been packing The Vines’ gigs for nearly two years now.
On the award side of things, they were up for nine NME Awards this year, including the frivolous best haircut, most sexy man, and hero of the year – all in Nicholls’ name. More serious nods include best international band and artist of the year. Eventually, The Vines walked away with one award for best single for “Get Free.”
